Biography: Sir Prince Abiodun James Adedokun Haastrup

Sir Prince Abiodun James Adedokun Haastrup was born on January 2, 1921, he was a descendant of Ọba Fredrick Kúmókụn Adédeji Haastrup Ajimọkọ I (the Ọwá-Obokun of Ìjèsà from 1896-1901).

He attended Methodist Primary School, Otapete, Ilesa as well as Ilesa Grammar School before earning an LLB Hons from the University College London in 1953. In 1954 he earned a Certificate in International Law, Comparative Constitutional Law, Administrative Law and Local Government from the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, London.

During his lifetime, Prince Adedokun served in numerous positions – he was first Assistant Secretary in the Western region’s Ministry of Justice and Local Government, later Acting Assistant Local Government Inspector, Ijebu Division. He was Nigeria High Commissioner to India (1964 – 1966), Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ethiopia (1966 – 1968), Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Germany (1968-1973), Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Italy and The Vatican, Spain, Greece and High Commissioner to Cyprus (1973-1976).

He was also at some point the Private Secretary to Chief Ọbáfẹ́mi Awólọ́wọ̀, when he was the Premier of Western Region. The fashionable and charismatic Prince reportedly died in the year 2000.
